Speech Class Persuasive Speech: Dating In Middle

Today I am presenting a less serious topic, but still a topic I think is important for young middle school teens. At this age there is a lot of change happening. Moods change, feelings are bouncing all over the place, and you start to see that annoying boy or girl in class a bit differently.  So there is a ton of confusion. The topic is middle school dating and why it is not a good idea.

First point is kids are immature. So at this age they are not ready to go a date. Relationships in middle school are not committed so they will not last. What is to gain? “It’s faux so it’s not real.” Teens dating are supposed to be practice for the future. What are they really learning? Not much they usually only mimic what they see on television. At this age teens usually do not have money or a car to really go out on a date. If they go somewhere their parents are taking them which is extremely romantic.  58% of 12-year-olds owned a cell phone in 2009, and in 2004 it was only 18%. Nowadays a typical way teens “date” each other is texting. Which is so fun and a great way to learn how to socialize and communicate with other people. Just sitting typing words with little smiley faces and hearts.   “They care more about the opinions of their peers than pretty much anything else.” Kids at this age post about everything happening in their small petty lives. This means they will bring their relationships on the internet for everyone to see. And if they are not in a relationship they let us know that they are available and looking for a relationship to be in. Have you ever seen a grown adult do this? How silly is this? They post way too much. They have month anniversaries. If that is a real concept. Adults do not do this. It’s not mature at all.

Second point is consistent dating is a distraction and can get in the way of what is really important at this age. They do not need to be thinking about when or where they are going to take their boyfriend/girlfriend somewhere. They should not have to worry about pleasing someone and making them happy. They already have so much on their plate like homework, studying, hobbies like sports, keeping a relationship with their family and having time for their real friends. Those things are what is really important right now for a 12-14 year old? Correct? Many kids actually hide their relationships from their parents. So what’s the point if they cannot be honest and share this great “love” with other people they love. It must not be that great if it has to be hidden. Kids are spending way too much time thinking of ways to hide their relationships when they could just be together in a group of friends.

Third point. Middle schoolers think they should grow up and act like the adults they are exposed to. What is worse than 16 and pregnant? 13 and pregnant. This is not a common thing, but it does happen usually to kids without real guidance or parents as good role models.  A pediatric study said approximately 11% of respondents were sexually active, and of those, fewer than 30% had unprotected sex at their last sexual encounter. Kids think they need to grow up and do what the adults and the latest pop star does. That can really ruin their child and eventually lead to them living their carefree childhood as a legal adult. Middle school kids should stay kids and wait because they have the whole rest of their lives to date and partake in acts that require someone with a lot more responsibility.

The main point I am getting at is kids should make friends and focus on forming lasting relationships with friends at ages 11-14. They do not need to act like adults yet they can do that much later in life or even high school when they can actually go places because they can drive. Thank for listening I hope you learned a few things from this very “serious” issue

Journal Entry: May 29th 2015 Fainting From Rat Dissection

So this was the first time I have ever seen an animal open with all of it's guts and organs displayed. And I suppose it was overwhelming for me and I just was in too much shock. Here's the story my Biology teacher had to demonstrate and explain the procedure of dissecting the white rat. And then after the weekend we would do it ourselves with a partner the next time we have our exam for Biology. For some strange reason I confused rat with mouse, so when she brought out the rat I thought it was so huge. It was already pre-cut and soaked in water with dye on it's organ that looked like blood. Just like my other classmates I stared at it and thought it was gross. After a few minutes of listening and watching the organs get picked at I started feeling really hot and then sweaty. I thought maybe I need to go outside, puke, or get some water. But I only stood there and watched till the near end. Soon I saw white stars from the side of my eyesight. I knew that I was going to probably pass out so I turned to my friend Autumn and told her "I am going to pass out". So I was told I stood there turned toward her for a few seconds till the demonstration ended and everyone left to the front of the classroom. Then I fainted. But I felt like I just decided to lay down for a second to rest or whatever. After that weirdness I shot up realizing I need to get back to class. Once I woke up Autumn and my teacher were taking me outside. So I sat there with my teacher and Autumn while my vision comes back. Autumn got me my water from my back pack and my teacher called the school nurse. The bell rang for 3rd period and all my classmates piled out and Autumn left with them. Then the nurse arrived with the wheelchair. That ride to the nurses office was so embarrassing. I tried to smile at the people I knew but the rest of the time I put my head down. She called my mom and explained what happened. I stayed and rested there all through 3rd period(Art Class) and then left for 4th period because since it's the end of the school so I have to be in my classes to prepare for exams. In 6th period, AP European History I learned what really happened when I fainted. No else but Autumn saw me faint . Apparently I was just standing there as everyone including the teacher left and migrated to the front of the classroom. She told me it really scared her. (I thought it was hilarious that I fainted at school) I got extremely pale, my lips were the white and my face had a yellowish color. Then I started shaking violently then quietly fell down almost hitting my head on the tile ,but luckily Autumn caught me. She had to yell Mrs.________ Alexa fainted! I was out for 10-15 seconds before I shot up and started saying "did I pass out?" "I did not pass out" And then you know the rest. It turns out I had a convulsion which can be a non-epileptic seizure. So yeah I had a seizure in class. It's pretty funny even though Autumn thought I might be seriously hurt or dying.

Hey Can I Try on Your Glasses

So I was listening to a comedian last night and he mentioned how strange it is for someone to ask to try on your glasses. And I thought "that is so true". I wear glasses during all of daylight and few a night hours. They are not clean at all. I try cleaning them ,but it is not any easy process. So what's up with people wanting to try on these dirty things that have been sitting on my face for hours? That's  like asking to try on my retainer. Gross right? Does it just give them a reason to point out how blind I am( I'm sure real blind people wish they had my vision) or do they just want to give themselves a quick headache?
People are weird.

Ending Friendships

Sometimes friends drift away, or break up. When you meet a new friend and become close do you really expect things to end
and the situation appears normal? No of course not, but it happens and usually you accept it and spend time with other or new friends. Although what happens if one of the friends is not ready to drift apart and say goodbye? Sadness. At least that is what I expierience. Especially since I have no clue if it has ended or not. If it has ,it was cut too short.

Selfies

Selfies. I don't get it. Girls and boys will take meaningless photos of their face or body in front of the mirror. Sometimes it will be the same shot everyday just with different clothes on. There is no story or memory behind these pictures. Except I guess dumb quotes that have nothing to do with the picture. Also do these people print their photos? I have been told by a 6th grader that printing your photos is old school and she just keeps all her photos on her phone. These pictures also seem pretty vain , they are a picture themselves with nothing else to remember except their youth organized into tiny colored pixels. Well I think Selfies are dumb, pointless, and vain. So ready for the fad to pass on.
